Music in communities
Music in Communities Network
Music. Play for Life runs Australia’s only national network linking people working and volunteering in community music. More on the network.
2008 saw the inaugural Music in Communities Awards, launched with the support of NAMM, the US-based International Music Products Industry Association. 225 community music organisations entered and a $12,000 prize pool was distributed to the winners, which included the inspirational Dandenong Ranges Music Council, the ground-breaking Tutti and the caffeine-fuelled Leichhardt Espresso Chorus! More here.
The campaign e-news features snippets and inspiration about community music groups and people. Sign up.
Making Music Being Well
Making music is good for you! To promote the links between music making and wellbeing, the campaign runs Making Music Being Well, a collaboration with the Australian Music Therapy Association. This involves thousands of people around Australia who sign-up to run events in hospitals, nursing homes, shopping malls, schools, scout halls, music stores – you name it – to help raise awareness about the positive links between music and health.
