Music Student Provident Fund (offered at VCA)
Eligibility: The MSPF is open to all current School of Music students.
The Music Student Provident Fund provides financial assistance to students of the School of Music who are heavily involved in music school activities.
Applications are considered on the basis of merit and need. Because the funds available are limited, some applications will be supported to a lesser extent than that requested, while others are refused. Assistance may take the form of an interest bearing loan, an interest-free loan, or a direct grant, and will be only a percentage of the cost involved. In any year, the total value of direct grants and interest free loans will not exceed the total amount of interest earned in the previous year. Further, the total value of interest bearing loans disbursed in any year will not exceed 10% of the value of the account.
Applications for Assistance
Students should apply well in advance of needing the support of the Fund, on the form provided, and must include a statement from their Principal Study teacher or other relevant staff from Practical Studies, supporting their application.
The Committee will normally interview all applicants to ensure that projects are worthwhile and, in the case of a loan, to ensure that the student can demonstrate the ability to repay the loan in a reasonable time. In exceptional cases, the Committee may meet to consider an urgent application outside the two normal application periods.
Loans will be made subject to the following conditions:
a) interest-bearing loans will attract interest at a rate of 5% per annum. The figure is reviewed regularly by the Committee;
b) all loans must be repaid by the time a student graduates. No student will be permitted to graduate while owing any money to the Fund. If a student leaves the College prematurely for any reason, the loan must be repaid in full;
c) the terms of repayment will normally be decided upon at the interview;
d) the Committee will not consider a loan to any student who currently has another loan outstanding.
The Fund is administered by a Committee consisting of the Head of the School of Music, the Administrator of the School of Music, two staff members nominated annually by the Head of School, and two students elected annually by the students of the School of Music.
Further information on the types of assistance available can be found on the application form, which can be obtained from the general office in the School of Music or by downloading below.
