Type of study supported:  Scholarship for a WA Youth Orchestra musician.

Nature of aid: “The Western Australian Government, through ArtsWA, provides a yearly scholarship of $3000 for a WAYO member. The object of the scholarship is to further the musical career of an instrumental music student between the age of 17- 25 who demonstrates outstanding ability and commitment to pursue a career in music. Eligible applicants must be current members of WAYO who are either in year 12 and intend undertaking a career in music, or studying music at a tertiary institution.”

Type of study supported: postgraduate tertiary

Nature of aid: “The award of a scholarship is restricted to students who have qualified for a degree in the field of music from this University or another recognised Western Australian institution or have completed the Associate Diploma of the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) and have studied music in Western Australia for two consecutive years immediately prior to making an application…Two scholarships are offered in each year, one for a singer and one for an instrumentalist.”

Nature of aid: “The purpose of the Tunley Music scholarships is to encourage students to pursue an undergraduate degree course in the School of Music at The University of Western Australia.”

Woodside Mini Bass Scholarships

Nature of aid: “The applicants should be ideally in upper primary school and looking at dedicating time to learning this instrument. The successful applicants will receive subsidised instrumental lessons for the 2007 season and the use of a WA Youth Music Mini Bass until the time they need a larger instrument. A commitment to regular practise, discipline and parental support is desired. The successful applicants will be expected to play in the Collegium or Sinfonietta WA Youth Music ensembles when considered to be of a suitable standard.”

Nature of aid: “Successful scholarship holders will receive subsidised lessons and if available, the use of a WA Youth Music oboe. Each scholarship holder will be given the opportunity to play in a WA Youth Music ensemble when considered to be of a suitable standard. String, woodwind and brass players are encouraged to apply aged around 13 years old, but this should not deter beginners or others from applying.”
